Unit 5 Projects

Small Bust

The Small Bust Project was something I wish I could've done, however, unfortunately I was not capable of finishing this project nor to start it. I personally didn't have much desire to do this project as I didn't have many visions for it, and I would've preferred something I could be more creative with, so I decided to grab some ideas that I would've used if I had done this project.

I think that this Art Piece is extremely beautiful and creative. I can tell just by the image that this artist is trying to show a story or even representing being a women and how we "bloom." I wouldv'e loved to create this. I found this piece on pinterest with no credit.

This piece looks like something that you would see in a Art Museum that represents how women feel when they're sad. I love how the either butterflies or flowers look, she looks so tired and overwhelmed by them, so she just accepts them. I found this piece on pinterest with no credit.

I am not entirely sure why I adore this piece so much. This woman looks like she doesn't have a thought in her mind other than the moment she is experiencing. I found this piece on pinterest with no credit.

Current Artist Inspired Piece

This piece was something I had been wanting to make for a long time in ceramics but I never had time to do it.. Once I got given the chance to make it, I didn't make a second thought, I immediately knew what to  do. There wasn't much planning I had to do for this piece, as I have had a inspiration for a long time. My goal for this piee was to make a mug to resemble a Taylor Swift Cardigan. My love for Taylor Swift has been around for a very long time. I was gifted by growing up with her music, and till this day her music has been able to be there for me to listen to when I want to feel happy, sad, or not alone. Her music shows clear messages of how she experiences similar emotions as me, and her music brings me to peace.

The Original Inspiration, then I needed to find a piece that perfectly represents what I want to create.

This is an image I found on pinterest, which is a PERFECT representation of what I wanted to make. The only things I would change would be not painting the gold on the lining of the stars, and the shade of red would be darker and less vibrant.

I started the mug by making a Slab and then measuring how much I cut it with a ruler. I then scored and slipped the sides together. I then cut out a circle from the leftover slab to have has the base, and then score and slipped the base together with the first slab.

I then made a new slab and used a star cut out to cut out the stars. I scored and slipped the stars onto the mug. I aswell did a handle, but it somehow fell off, I did not get a picture of it. I then started to try to make the cardigan pattern, but it just was not working out.

After letting the piece sit outside until the next class I returned with it and started to continue the pattern. All of a sudden the mug broke, I am not sure how this happened as it was first a slab and didn't have any air bubbles. I decided it wouldn't work as it was bone dry.

My plan was to restart the mug as I admired it so much. To make it easier I made a stamp for the cardigan pattern. I had put it in the kilm but unfortunately never came out so I decided to let this project go.

Mask

I at first didn't have much vision for this piece so I never got around to it and didn't feel too motivated to do it. I never really loved doing face projects so I knew I wouldn't want to do this one, I wasn't too sure how to start the planning for it, so I decided to gather a couple examples on Pinterest of what I would've liked to do.

Although this isn't exactly a mask, if I would've made this I would have made it into a mask. Coraline is one of my favorite movies for so many reasons, this would have been my top inspiration for this project.

This piece shows such a interesting story that I can just feel by looking at it. I'm sure if somebody just looks at this could imagine the feeling, I love this piece and it's creativity.

This mask is so cool. Scream is one of my favorite horror movie franchises and I would genuinely keep this in my room or hang it on my wall.

Alebrijes

For the Alebreje my immediate vision was to make a sting-ray. Sting-rays are one of the most beautiful sea animals I have seen. As they are just grey, I decided I needed to make one into an Alebrije.

I started by making a ball of clay and forming it into a more rectangular round shape. I then took more clay and distributed it into 2 pieces and flattening them. I then scored and slipped each limb onto the stingrey and flattened the stomach, I them scored and slipped on the eyes.

I then carved detailing onto the Sting-Ray mapping out where colors where fit in.

After I let the piece sit out and get bone-dry I then underglazed it, the theme for colors was deep sea sort of colors with some bright colors such as the light blue and purple.

Once it was finished being fired I then over-glazed it completely, I wish I painted it more neately but it was quite difficult because the holes were small.

Here is the finished Piece. I think this piece is cute but I wish I took more time in the glazing.

Useful Piece

For my useful piece I wanted to make another piece that I can hold my jewelry and such in. As a person who LOVES strawberries, I decided to find a piece that is a strawberry and that I can hold jewelry in.

Here is exactly what I would like to make. The only adjustments would be having the strawberry white to match my room, and I would not have the gold line.

I then made a slab and used a heart cookie cutter to make the perfect heart shape. I then took the extra slab left and started the walls on the buttom of the heart, I then smoothed them out and scored and lipped.

I next did the same steps for the top part of the strawberry, however, I attempted to slightly round the top to look more like a strawberry but it didn't work as well as I wanted.

I then underglazed it as I liked. I forgot to take pictures of it finished and glazed but I liked how it came out.
